Hiatus Recap: April

After yesterday’s TTT, I’m continuing with my Hiatus Recap. I have seven months of books to cover and I’m determined to go over them with breakneck speed. On to April!

I only read six books this time around. This was probably my least productive month in over a year, but I figure that’s fine since I’ve been perpetually ahead of schedule. In spite of my lower numbers, it was a great reading month. Some of my favorite books of the year were from April!

  1. Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor (April 8)
  2. The Conspiracy of Us by Maggie Hall (April 10)
  3. Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore (April 16)
  4. Soundless by Richelle Mead (April 21)
  5. Days of Blood & Starlight by Laini Taylor (April 28)
  6. Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard (April 30)

I still haven’t finished the Daughter of Smoke & Bone series. I can’t. It’s too good and when I read the last book, it’ll be over. The concepts and settings are so unique. Tricky situations are created and then ducked out of in a way that feels really graceful. I even love Karou, a character I didn’t think I would like at first. She could easily have been dislikable, or too perfect, or too unbelievable, but her characterization was really well done.

I mentioned this in my TTT, but I adored the narration by Khristine Hvam. There was a moment in Days of Blood & Starlight where I almost started crying when I heard a character’s voice again. I was actually sitting at my desk at work, so that could have been embarrassing if someone had caught me looking weepy. I officially made her my favorite audiobook narrator after that.

While I didn’t finish the DoSaB series, I did finally finish the Graceling series. As with Fire, I knew I would like the main character, but I was caught off guard by how much I liked her. Bitterblue was so kind and smart, and I think she may have ended up being my favorite character from the series. The competition is pretty stiff, though. I basically love everyone from these books.

I loved the Daughter of Smoke & Bone series. Though it’s been awhile since I’ve read them, I still remember how much I loved the characters and the creative world! I didn’t like Graceling so I never tried the rest of the books.
